Jive turkeys!

In the best and silliest illustration yet of how Republicans reflexively oppose everything Obama does, a new poll reveals that by a 27-point margin, they disapprove of his decision last Thanksgiving to pardon two turkeys rather than the customary one (link found via Mock Paper Scissors).

Of course, most teabaggers are so dim they probably think the extra turkey Obama pardoned is the same one that shot down that Russian fighter plane.

That may seem harsh, but after a week in which the most unpardonable turkey of them all crossed the line into openly and brazenly neo-fascist rhetoric, check out how he's doing in polls of these guys:
Yep -- higher than ever.  What would Eisenhower think of what his party has become?

Eisenhower would walk away from a party so corrupt and so out of touch with American values.

There's only one thing "good" to be gleaned from Trump's ascendency in the TGOP: We now know that all the dark, anti-American impulses we suspected thought resided in their hearts are actually true. Trump appeals to the worst in human nature. There is no decency in him nor in the TGOP.

I should have typed "We now know that all the dark anti-American impulses we suspected THAT RESIDES in their hearts..."

(Turkey overdose made me do it.)

Yes, Eisenhower, the man who led America's war on fascism. It's an irony to match the long-standing one that the party of Lincoln has become the party of Confederate-flag fetishists.

The party of Lincoln and Eisenhower is dead. What we've got here is basically a zombie.

Dark anti-American impulses? Zombies? You are both being much too kind.

Here is the theory:

"It is thus necessary that the individual should finally come to realize that his own ego is of no importance in comparison with the existence of his nation; that the position of the individual ego is conditioned solely by the interests of the nation as a whole ... that above all the unity of a nation's spirit and will are worth far more than the freedom of the spirit and will of an individual...."

"This state of mind, which subordinates the interests of the ego to the conservation of the community, is really the first premise for every truly human culture.... The basic attitude from which such activity arises, we call-to distinguish it from egoism and selfishness-idealism. By this we understand only the individual's capacity to make sacrifices for the community, for his fellow men."

These statements were made in our century by the leader of a major Western nation. His countrymen regarded his view point as uncontroversial. His political program implemented it faithfully.

The statements were made by Adolf Hitler. He was explaining the moral philosophy of Nazism.

Trump, the 21st century reincarnation.

Jono: I'm keeping a few epithets in reserve until the picture becomes clearer.

Rational: That's certainly part of the psychology of totalitarianism, and one can find other parallels to it in the US. The blatant targeting of minorities now is what's most disturbing.

Matt sayz ... "WTF are you ... a f'n liberal!?" ... I just bust out laughing, then Matt sayz to me ... "WTF is so funny Tom?" ... I said ... "listening to ya'll fixin to have a bitch fight" ... Tim started on him and said "I dont call feeding a deer for months, then shooting it ... hunting, it aint like you actually go out and hunt them with a bow and arrow or out in the woods hunting them" (I'm laughing my ass off)... Matt sayz ... "fuck ya'll Tim and Tom ... why dont ya'll go do some fag shit with each other!" ... heh, heh, heh, heh, heh {:-) ... you would have had to been there I guess to feel the humor, but I couldnt help laughing!

Agreed. Targeting minorities as a group, whichever they may be, is an obvious denial of the individual and the civil and human rights of each. By attributing negative behavior to one particilar group as a whole paints each individual with the same negative. Fascists and tyrants have been doing it forever it seems.

Trump is good at it and a large segment of society willingly follows him.
